What is Blueberry?

Blueberries are called vaccinium myrtillus in botanical literature.

This plant variety is a fruity shrub species in the heather family. There are many known wild species of blueberries that grow spontaneously in heathland and forest areas.

The blueberries, which are traded and widely consumed, are divided into three different varieties: "high blueberries", "low blueberries" and "hare's-eyed blueberries".

Blueberries are native to the northern hemisphere. The most common growing areas globally are the Rocky Mountains in Northern Europe and the USA. In our country, it grows mainly in the high altitude heathland and forested areas of the Black Sea. Blueberries have been an important branch of the agricultural industry for more than 100 years since the discovery of their flavour and benefits. These new species, which are still traded today, produce larger, juicier and sweeter fruits compared to their wild counterparts.
